Concrete Responsibility
"It is easier by far to act on abstract principle than from concrete responsibility." - LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON
Putting God's Principles into action The actual situations to which we need to respond are never quite the way we would like them to be. Nor do they quite occur the way we have learned in school. Actual situations are usually more complex rather than simple, gray rather than black or white; they take longer to solve than first anticipated and require that we be adaptable and be prepared to get our hands dirty. Yet it is precisely our response to the concrete situations that marks us as followers of Jesus, for He was the one who elevated the real needs of people above that of the ceremonial and religious laws of His day.
What the Bible is saying Then he asked the people, "What does our Law allow us to do on the Sabbath? To help or to harm? To save someone's life or to destroy it?" But they did not say a thing.
- Mark 3:4
Thoughts The doing that responds to real situations is usually a costly doing.
