American Bible Society Mission Partners

Faith Comes By Hearing

More than half the world cannot read and in some countries as many as 80-90% are illiterate. And even people from an oral tradition who CAN read, often learn best by listening. That’s why the American Bible Society partners with Faith Comes By Hearing® in many countries around the globe to provide audio Scriptures.

Like the Bible Society, Faith Comes By Hearing is dedicated to overcoming every barrier of illiteracy, poverty, or oral culture, so that people around the world can hear God's Word in the "heart languages," find salvation in Jesus Christ and become disciples. The Audio New Testament breaks the barriers, bringing poor and illiterate people to God's Word.

Feed The Children (FTC)

The American Bible Society provides spiritual nutrition, God’s Word — children’s Bibles, New Testaments in English and Spanish in easy-to-read formats — for Feed The Children’s food distributions to needy families across the country. In 2004, the Bible Society provided 31,500 children’s Scriptures in partnership with FTC.

Military Ministry

The American Bible Society helps distribute specially designed military Bibles to the U.S. troops. In 2004, more than 57,000 military Bibles have shipped to the bases of chaplains, with some 25,000 more to follow. Overseas, the Bible Society has given 5,000 camouflage-covered New Testaments in the Latvian language to the military in Latvia.

Mission Year

This “live-your-faith” program enrolls young people to live in urban neighborhoods for one year and get involved with area churches and community-improvement projects. The Bible Society’s Elementz of Life™ inner-city youth materials — Elementz of Life magazine, a Christian hip-hop CD and other resources that draw from youth culture — will help participants minister to their neighbors in home and church Bible studies and in sharing their faith in the “language” of inner-city youth.

Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child

This international relief organization collects boxes packed with school supplies, clothes, toys and candy to distribute to children who are in desperate situations around the world. The Bible Society provides Scriptures in appropriate languages for these distributions. In 2004, the Bible Society gave 100,000 New Testaments to children in Angola, Colombia Ghana, Malawi, Nicaragua, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.

United Bible Societies (UBS)

The American Bible Society extends its outreach internationally through the United Bible Societies (UBS), a fellowship of 136 national Bible Societies. The American Bible Society was instrumental in founding this global fellowship in the interest of greater ministry impact and efficiency. Begun in 1946 with 12 member Societies, the UBS has grown to number 136 National Bible Societies that cooperate with all Christian churches and church-related organizations for Bible outreach in more than 200 countries and territories.

National Association of State & Regional Bible Societies (NASRBS)

The National Association of State and Regional Bible Societies is a collegial association of its member agencies. The member Bible Societies share a common commitment to extending God's Word in their respective areas. However, each Bible Society is independent and has its own history and traditions. Thus, while sharing a common purpose and often functioning in similar ways, our member societies serve their constituencies in their own unique ways.
